Exactly. Nothing you show indicates why it returns nothing. Is that 
nothing or a bad record . How does a nothing / bad record look like.

I can tell you this. yaz_record only changes the (c)data. It does not 
change the encoding of the XML header. yaz_records is not a generic XML 
tool. The charset option is mostly to convert from "anything" to UTF-8.
